Tombstone Tourism (tombstonetourism.com) is an independent cemetery travel guide run by its founder, Dominic Brown. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Tombstone Tourism.
We decide how and why the personal information described here is used, which makes us the data controller under UK and EU data protection law.
When you join the letter. We ask for your email address and, if you choose to share them, your first name and the country you are based in. Your email address is the only required field. We use these details to send you new cemetery guides, photographs and stories, to greet you by name, and to send guides that suit where you live. You are only added after you confirm your address from the email we send, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
When you send us a message. The contact form asks for your name, email address, a topic and your message. We use these only to read and reply to you. Your message is emailed to us and a copy is stored in our website’s database. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us.
When you browse. Like most websites, our hosting server automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and when. Our host’s security tools use this to keep the site running and to block attacks. We do not use it to identify you.
What we do not collect. We do not run advertising, we do not currently use analytics cookies or tracking pixels, and visitors do not need an account. If that changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
We keep cookies to a minimum. Some page features may set a session cookie (PHPSESSID), which is deleted when you close your browser. If you sign in to manage the site, WordPress sets its own login cookies. We do not set advertising or analytics cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the guides will still work.
A few trusted companies help us run the site and the letter. Each one handles only what it needs:
We never sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. The only companies that handle it are the service providers listed above, and only to run the site and the letter for us. We would disclose information to anyone else only if the law required it.
Sign-up details stay on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. After you unsubscribe, MailerLite keeps a record of your address so that you are not emailed again by mistake.
Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to reply and follow up, and are deleted within two years. Server logs are kept by our host for a short period for security.
Our service providers may store or process information in the United States, the European Union and other countries. Where information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
If you are in the UK or the EU, you can also ask for your information in a portable format, and you have the right to complain to your data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, correct and delete your information, and you will not be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
To make a request, send us a message through the contact page and choose “Privacy request” as the topic. We will reply within one month.
Tombstone Tourism is written for adults and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, let us know and we will delete their details.
The site runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and is protected by our host’s security tools. Only we can access the site’s admin area and our email list. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep only what we need, which limits what could ever be exposed.
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
Send us a note and choose “Privacy request”. We read every message.
